Biennale Venedig 2024. Das Who‘s who der Gegenwartskunst (Seminar und Exkursion)
Alle zwei Jahre wird mit der Biennale Arte di Venezia ein Ausblick auf aktuelle Tendenzen in der globalen Kunst gegeben. 2024 findet die Biennale Venedig zum 60. Mal statt und ist für das Seminar Anlass, sich gemeinsam auf die Ausstellungen vorzubereiten und vor Ort drei Tage in die Welt der Biennale einzutauchen.
1895 gegründet, ist die Biennale Venedig die älteste Kunstbiennale und Vorbild für die inzwischen große Anzahl von weiteren Veranstaltungen dieser Art weltweit. Nach wie vor folgt die internationale Kunstschau dem ursprünglichen Prinzip der Nationalpavillons, in denen einzelne Länder ihre ausgewählten Künstler*innen autonom ausstellen. Die Länderpavillons auf dem ursprünglichen Areal der Giardini werden mittlerweile um eine anwachsende Zahl von Länderdependancen im gesamten Stadtgebiet erweitert. Zusätzlich wird stets in einer unabhängig kuratierten Ausstellung eine thematische Perspektive auf zeitgenössische Kunst eröffnet.
Die Exkursion zur Biennale Venedig wird mit der Herausforderung verbunden sein, das schwer überschaubare Angebot zu ordnen und zu erfassen. Im Seminar werden wir uns vorab sowohl mit den Beiträgen und der Konzeption ausgewählter Länderpavillons beschäftigen als auch mit dem kuratorischen und kulturpolitischen Wandel der über 100 Jahre alten Institution. Wir werden ein praktikables Programm für unseren dreitägigen Aufenthalt erstellen (10.-12.09.).

Venice Biennale. The who’s who of contemporary art (seminar and excursion)
Every two years, the Biennale Arte di Venezia provides an outlook on current trends in global art. In 2024, the Venice Biennale will take place for the 60th time and is an opportunity for the seminar to prepare for the exhibitions together and immerse itself in the world of the Biennale for three days on site.
Founded in 1895, the Venice Biennale is the oldest art biennale and the model for the now large number of other events of this kind worldwide. The international art show still follows the original principle of national pavilions, in which individual countries exhibit their selected artists autonomously. The national pavilions on the original site of the Giardini are now being expanded to include a growing number of national pavilions throughout the city. In addition, a thematic perspective on contemporary art is always presented in an independently curated exhibition.
The excursion to the Venice Biennale will be associated with the challenge of organizing and comprehending the difficult-to-manage offer. In the seminar, we will deal in advance with the contributions and the conception of selected national pavilions as well as with the curatorial and cultural-political transformation of the over 100-year-old institution. We will create a practicable program for our three-day stay (10.-12.09.)
There will be costs for individual travel to and from Venice, accommodation in Venice and the entrance ticket. Further information on the seminar can be found on moodle.

Renate Buschmann
Renate Buschmann beschäftigt sich als Wissenschaftlerin und Kuratorin mit zeitgenössischer Kunst. Sie ist Professorin für Digitale Künste und Kulturvermittlung am WittenLab der UW/H.
