Socrates' Daimonion: Plato for Beginners

We’ll read Plato’s _Theages_ to familiarize ourselves with Plato, Socrates, and the world of Platonic dialogues. Because the _Theages_ is one of the shorter dialogues, there is a good chance that we’ll be able to finish it. Furthermore, we will study two pieces of secondary literature. The course is open to anyone with an interest in Plato, Socrates, or ancient philosophy. No knowledge of any of these will be assumed. The course will be conducted entirely in English.

I studied philosophy under Laurence Lampert, and wrote my dissertation, a close reading of Xenophon's _Hiero_, on tyranny.
