Black Mirror and Co... What Can We Learn From Scifi Films?
Science fiction films often play on social stereotypes, offering us the chance to reflect on our own present through exaggeration. Furthermore, a great deal of effort goes into creating a vision of the future.
In the format that we have practised for several semesters, we select the films that we want to discuss at the beginning of the semester and form groups, with each group being responsible for one film. Each group prepares a presentation on one of the films, providing a summary at the beginning and offering suggestions for interpretation or prognosis, before leading the subsequent discussion. Together, we will assess the films in terms of their realism and discuss their portrayal of different areas of society, such as the economy, social coexistence, racism and inequalities. The exact procedure and objectives will be agreed upon at the first meeting.
