Migration and integration: theories, trends and practice in NRW, Germany, Europe and the world
The course will offer a comprehensive insight into the dynamic and complex area of migration and integration. Students will be provided with an overview of the key theoretical concepts and approaches to explaining migration movements and shaping integration processes. Current trends and developments in global migration, particularly in the context of European migration policy, will be covered. The historical and contemporary challenges and opportunities of Germany as a country of immigration will be discussed. Special emphasis will be placed on the analysis of local and national migration policies and their practical implementation. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and practical examples, students will acquire a sound understanding of the complex interrelationships between migration and integration, as well as the design and evaluation of relevant policies and programmes.
Cem Sentürk, M.A.
Cem Sentürk studierte Verwaltungswissenschaft an der Universität Istanbul und erwarb seinen Master in Politikwissenschaft und internationalen Beziehungen an der Technischen Universität Yıldız in Istanbul. Seit 2006 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Zentrum für Türkeistudien und Integrationsforschung (ZfTI), wo er den Programmbereich „Partizipation in Wirtschaft und Kommune“ leitet. Seit 2021 unterrichtet er "Migration und Integration" an der Hochschule für Polizei und öffentliche Verwaltung Nordrhein-Westfalen (HSPV NRW). Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen kommunale Integrationskonzepte, Arbeits- und Ausbildungsmarktbeteiligung von Migrant*innen, deutsch-türkische Städtepartnerschaften sowie die wirtschaftliche Selbstständigkeit von Migrant*innen.
Objectives & Competences
The course covers a range of key topics in the fields of migration and integration. These include causes and motives for migration, integration processes, migration policy and legislation.
The course aims to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It prepares participants for a professional career in this dynamic and socially relevant field, while also providing them with a general understanding of it.
