Pregnancy – Whose Decision?
The seminar is about focuses on the different phases of pregnancy: before pregnancy, first trimester, second & third trimester and after delivery childbirth. In each phase, the debate in favour of or against pregnancy can be approached from different perspectives.The seminar examines ethical, political, psychological, sociological, economic and medical aspects. The aim is to give students the opportunity to understand and compare the perspectives. What are decision-making situations before pregnancy? What are decision-making situations when a pregnancy is diagnosed? Who is involved in decisions and affected by the consequences of a decision? The seminar is run by an interdisciplinary team and is open to all students of all degree programmes; no prior knowledge is required.

Einer meiner thematischen Schwerpunkte der der Zusammenhang von Technik und Gesellschaft, hier am Beispiel Künstlicher Intelligenz. Die erste Assoziation zu KI ist oft immer technisch geprägt und fokussiert nicht auf individuelle Einflussnahme insbesondere als Nicht-Informatiker*innen. Es ist mir daher ein Anliegen, Studierende, die künftig Aufgaben in der Gesellschaft wahrnehmen, technik- und datenkompetent zu machen und von einer technikdeterministischen Sichtweise, in der die technische Entwicklung vorangeht und die Gesellschaft hinterherhinkt, wegzubewegen, und zwar in die Richtung, eigene Ideen in dem Feld zu entwickeln bzw. Ansatzpunkte für das eigene Handeln zu erkennen und die persönliche Betroffenheit zu reflektieren.
Objectives & Competences
Students should familiarise themselves with different perspectives on decisions about pregnancy and
develop an understanding of different aspects over the course of time. Students should be able to discuss and critically reflect on the framework conditions and aspects of a decision in favour of or against pregnancy. Students should familiarise themselves with ethical arguments in the context of pregnancy decisions and understand how these can be incorporated into the decision-making process. Students should be able to deal intensively with the influencing factors that play a role in pregnancy decisions and analyse the possible consequences of a decision.
