The greatest botanical diversity in Central Europe can be found in ten biotopes – and these are not forest or wilderness biotopes, but biotopes of the cultural landscape. This means they are dependent on humans and their sustainable management, which challenges the widespread narrative that humans are generally the greatest destroyers of nature. In the future, the goal will be to design economic and landscape planning so that food production and biodiversity go hand in hand. The 10 biotope concept, which was published in 2020 by a working group led by Christoph Vahle, provides the basis for this.

In our course we will get to know the concept of the 10 biotopes from a theoretical and practical perspective. Depending on your interest and current situation, you can help maintain a site in the area surrounding the university that was created according to the concept of 10 biotopes.

Als Freiberuflicher Biologe und Unternehmer arbeite ich in verschiedenen ökologischen Projekten. Hierzu gehören Vegetationskartierungen vor dem Bau von Stromleitungstrassen, Planung und Durchführung von Biotopkonzepten im landwirtschaftlichen und Städtischen Bereich sowie kleinere Tätigkeiten in der Umweltbildung im Bereich Pflanzensoziologie und Bodenkunde. Mich interessiert das Zusammenspiel aus Pflege der Natur und unternehmerischen Perspektiven, da hier meines Erachtens die größten Herausforderungen und Lösungsmöglichkeiten vieler aktueller gesellschaftlicher Fragen liegen. Vor diesem Hintergrund bin ich auch ein Stück weit in der Startup- Szene unterwegs.

- Interrelationships between human and ecological health

- Ideas for nature-friendly economic models

- Knowledge of native plant species in relation to habitats and soil

- Reflection on your own subject-related study content in the context of system issues and ecology

- Native flora as a starting point for biodiversity

- Relationship between humans and nature

- Seeing complexity and emerging contradictions as potential
