Gardening
We are outside and getting our hands dirty! What does that mean? It involves practical gardening work on the campus area. In the summer semester, there is a wide range of possible activities: planting and pruning, mulching and weeding. Designing and maintaining. Watering and fertilising. As well as – under the guidance of the Witten Nature Conservation Group – various tasks on the avenue of fruit trees between the meadow areas.
But we also work theoretically, with short introductions and presentations and all kinds of explanations on site about the work in question.
Not unimportant for the course is also the "social aspect" – it allows students, in common action, across faculty and semester boundaries, to enter into conversation with each other!

Nicht beendetes Studium Philosophie, Geschichte und Slawistik an der Universität Bochum. Ausbildung zum biologisch-dynamischen Baumschulgärtner. Selbständiger Gartenbauunternehmer. Seit annähernd 40 Jahren verantwortlicher Gärtner der UW/H. Journalistische Arbeit für verschiedene Medien (Reportagen, Interviews, Essays, Feuilleton, Kolumnen, Fachartikel, Rezensionen und Fernsehbeiträge). Projektleiter bei diversen Kultur- und Gartenprojekten. Buchautor (Garten und Kinderbücher sowie ein Buch über die "Regionalwert AG").
Objectives & Competences
No prerequisites or prior knowledge required.
Exemplary “encounters” with plants and working methods. Expansion of practical skills.
Focus: Gardening methods. The place of gardening in the “spiritual cosmos” of human beings. Ecological issues.
Important skills: Prerequisites: None! Outcome: Expansion of individual skills from the large “pool” of abilities and skills used in gardening.
