Decentralised autonomous organisations – DAOs as the future of organization?
Imagine an organisation without a chief executive officer, without a board of directors, without a traditional hierarchy – and yet million-dollar decisions are made every day, complex financial products are managed and its own currency is stabilised.
Welcome to the world of Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs).
DAOs are digital organisations based on blockchain technology that function without a central management authority. Instead of statutes or internal guidelines, processes are regulated by smart contracts – i.e. program code. What sounds like science fiction has long been reality: thousands of DAOs now collectively manage billions in assets, make democratic decisions on protocol parameters and experiment with radical new forms of collaboration.
Using empirical examples such as MakerDAO, Uniswap and others, we discuss whether DAOs actually represent a revolution or rather an evolution of existing forms of organisation.

Darüber hinaus arbeite ich an Fragestellungen zu Herausforderungen und Chancen von Sozialität unter Bedingungen künstlicher Intelligenz. - How do DAOs differ from traditional types of organisations such as bureaucracies, companies or associations?
- How do transparency, decision-making and trust mechanisms work in DAOs compared to traditional organisations?
- Do DAOs solve the fundamental problems of organisation – or do they just create new complexities?
