Rhetorik und Wahrheit
Rhetoric and Truth
If truth is worth talking about, it must be accounted for. To be able to say what one has seen, however, is one of the more difficult exercises in thinking. The fact that many speak more than they have to say, and some have discovered more than they can communicate, is the lot of people whose world is first revealed in words, but is also hidden by language. Even in antiquity, men appeared who took advantage of this deficiency: Deception, manipulation, demagogy and disinformation – they form the context in which rhetoric must legitimise itself to this day. Only where it is worth arguing about truth can a speech claim to be binding and an insight to be valid. The course provides practice in forms of speaking and thinking – in techniques that should not even be called “technical”, such as argumentation, debate, dialectic, free speech – and is for all those who want more than to present something and themselves well.
